We designed and developed a custom theatre website for St. Michael’s Theatre in New Ross. The site blends elegance and functionality, highlighting upcoming shows, community events, and venue info in an easy-to-navigate layout.
Our work on the St. Michael’s Theatre website began with a collaborative discovery phase. We held in-depth conversations with key stakeholders at the theatre to fully understand the user journeys and functionality they needed. From the outset, our aim was to deliver a theatre website design that was not only visually impactful but also user-friendly, accessible, and informative.
Through initial discovery sessions, we identified a few essential goals: highlight upcoming productions, make it easier for users to book tickets, showcase community involvement, and ensure important policy information was easily accessible. The site needed to serve not only theatre-goers but also the performers, event organizers, and the wider creative community. With this in mind, we knew the theatre website design had to strike a balance between artistic expression and operational clarity.
Next, we moved into the planning and wireframing stage. We mapped out user flows and structured the site architecture to ensure intuitive navigation. Our wireframes centered on a clean, modular layout, allowing various types of content to coexist without overwhelming the visitor. Accessibility played a key role—both in the design and development phases—to ensure the site would meet modern usability standards for all users.
When it came to the design, we wanted to visually reflect the creative vibrancy of St. Michael’s Theatre while keeping the interface timeless and approachable. We opted for a sophisticated yet warm colour palette, using deep tones complemented by bright highlights to draw attention to calls-to-action and featured shows. The typography was chosen for its readability across devices and screen sizes, ensuring consistency throughout the entire theatre website design.
A key component of the project was content presentation. We worked closely with the St. Michael’s Theatre team to develop flexible content blocks that could be reused throughout the site. This allowed staff to easily update events, announcements, and policy documents without technical support. For example, upcoming productions are displayed in a dynamic grid layout that automatically updates based on date, helping the site remain fresh and relevant at all times.
During development, we focused on performance and mobile responsiveness. The theatre website design needed to load quickly even on lower-bandwidth connections, particularly for users booking tickets on the go. We optimised images, implemented lazy loading, and ensured that all scripts were lightweight and efficient. On the backend, we integrated a simple content management system that empowered the theatre team to update content with ease.
We also built in SEO best practices from the ground up. This included proper header hierarchies, alt text for images, structured data for events, and mobile-first design—all of which contributed to strong search engine performance from day one. By applying these practices, we were able to enhance the digital footprint of St. Michael’s Theatre and increase visibility among local and regional audiences.
Throughout the process, communication remained open and consistent. We held regular check-ins to ensure that every decision aligned with the theatre’s vision and goals. Their input played a critical role in fine-tuning the archive section, the booking process, and the layout of community group pages.
The final product is a theatre website design that celebrates creativity, improves access to information, and supports both audience engagement and operational needs. It stands as a robust digital home for St. Michael’s Theatre and a proud addition to the Lemon Logic portfolio.
